The Global Academy for International Athletics, with input from nearly forty professionals, invented the “Children’s Athletics Trials” for children ages 8, 9, 10, and 11 years old. The Academy also has special programs for children ages 5, 6 and 7.
The purposes of the
Children’s Athletics Trials are to identify future world class athletes as
early as feasible and to assist and guide the children’s parents, teachers and
coaches on how to nurture those identified talents. The children have other talents as well. These trials also administer several kinds of
psychological tests, interest tests, aptitude tests, IQ tests, personality
tests, to ascertain in which domains the child is likely to be highly successful
as a professional, in music, art, the sciences, mathematics, technology,
medicine, law, business, education, architecture, diplomacy, etc.
The Global Academy’s Children’s Athletics
Trials are specifically designed to assist the 99 nations that have never won
an Olympic medal to identify their potential Olympic-level athletes. The
goal is to enable those 99 nations to win at least one Olympic medal by 2020,
and all nations to win their fair share of Olympic medals.
We believe that human
talents are universally distributed and that every child has some unique and
rewardable talent. Professor Howard
Gardner at Harvard University underscored the research that shows that by age
two or two-and-one-half most children understand that their place in society is
determined by their profession/occupation.
All children get busy “preparing for their future” in play at those
ages, exploring their talents to figure out their occupational futures. By age eight the child’s unconscious mind
probably will have settled on his “favored capacities,” to use Harvard’s Erik
Erikson’s term, his or her future career.
From age 8 to 11, the child’s many talents
and capacities will begin to flower, particularly with guidance provided by the
Academy.
At age 12 the potential world-class athlete
is ready to enter the Academy on a full-time residential basis and begin the
rigorous and demanding regimes required for success in the Olympics. One cannot be listed among the world’s “best”
without going through an arduous training program.
What is assessed at the Children’s
Trials?
All major athletic skills, speed, strength,
and agility, etc.; all major psychological skills, including thinking
skills. Each parent/child is presented a formal assessment.
